 SG AA News - 5 Jan 03

- Commanding Officer's Address: Back to Work!!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year, now it is time to get down to business.

As mentioned before Xmas we are entering a phase of extensive Platoon training to lead up to us jumping back into a competition ladder in February. In order for us to be successful at this we are going to focus primarily on teamwork and communication. Strats will be important as well, but if you have teamwork and communication then you can throw a strategy out the windows, as usually happens (Murphy’s Law: no battle plan ever survives first contact), and still be very successful as a team.

The platoon roster, thus the competition roster will be based on what is seen this month as far as participation and performance. So make sure everyone who is serious about AA and hopes to compete in a ladder shows up this month and earns a spot to take SG to glory in the America’s Army Battlefield.

Lock and Load Gents!!

 SG AA News - 24 Dec 02

- Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! The staff and members of Sturmgrenadier wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

 SG AA News - 17 Dec 02

- Commanding Officer's Address: Well, we have had quite the year! America’s Army was released in July of 2002 and Sturmgrenadier jumped in with both feet, Airborne!!

Most might recall Version 1.0 known as America’s Army Recon. It consisted of 5 maps, seemed like 5 Homelan Servers, and the irritations of having to qualify in Mount McKenna with a bunch of other n00bs who thought this game was Unreal Tournament before moving on to the “good” maps. Ahhh , the good ole days…

Since that fateful day, we have seen a lot of changes in SG AA Operations. Spoon, originally AA Chief along with his right hand man Scorp……errrr….SG Father, got the ball rolling and recruited the majority of the members you see today from WWIIOL or from the gaming community in general. Their plan was very simple, provide SG members an AA team to allow us to kick some serious ass in AA and have fun while doing it.

Earlier this year Spoon and Scorp decided to move back to the WWIIOL fold and, after I assumed command (thanks to Schmidt for his hard work), we were issued an ultimatum: to make SG AA Operations ‘live or die" based on participation from its members. I am glad to say the members did step up big time and if it was not for them I would not be making this address. Thanks to all the SG AA members for their support of my command, and make Alpha Platoon a success day after day.

I am happy to report that the AA Squad, including Platoon and non-Platoon members is over 35 members strong and growing. A huge thanks goes out to Spoon, and Burnspot for their efforts and continued support.

So where do we go from here?
In the past 2 months we have been developing SG ‘Strats’ on the majority of the maps and learning to work as a team. Communication has improved immensely and we are about to determine if we are ready for the Teamwarfare ladder (TWL) once again. We have taken on many new members and need to get everyone on the same page to be successful.

- Christmas Schedule: Starting this Sunday: Insurgent Camp. This week will be simply a fun one (Dec 15, 17, 19). "Playing for Honor" we will call it. It can be our Cyber Xmas Party, RumNog Optional!!

Official practices will then take a break and fire up again on January 2nd.

At this time we get down to business. We will be reviewing Strats on all the maps we have covered so far (Insurgent Camp, Farm Raid, Weapons Cache, Pipeline, River Basin etc.) One map per week. This will help to bring our new guys up to speed as well.

We will also be starting to trim our Platoon Roster based on attendance and performance so showing up and contributing is very important. I hope we can have max participation for these practices. We will be scheduling some scrimmages with other squads during this time as well.

After this review period we will determine if SG is ready to enter the TWL ladder again. Which I am confident we will be. So we are looking at the goal of being back on the Ladder for February. So as you can see our work has only just begun.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas Break and a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing everyone back ‘Fit to Fight’ for January
2nd!

 League Update - 10 Aug 02

We are still hard at work on our upcoming league. Rules are being written and the final coding is being done. Expect signups to start the first of September. This should give everyone enough time to partake in the "gold" patch expected on the 25th of this month. We look forward to starting the league. Stay tuned for details as they arise.

Sturmgrenadier to Sponsor AA League - 29 July 02

Coming soon, SG will be sponsoring an official AA League that will include teams from all over. The league site in beginning stages of creation will be ready to start at full speed the middle of August pending future patch releases. Currently the design is complete except for the name which at this time is being flip flopped around in our forums amongst SG members. We look forward to serving you soon in what is sure to be the best AA League around the net. The league will be administered by an outside source to keep everything on the up and up and to avoid a conflict of interest internally. The league will also consist of a board made up by CO's of registered league teams. More details to come as things progress. In the meantime, help spread the word about the great news! If you would like to take a peek at the design model of our upcoming league, click here.

 Splash Screen - 23 July 02

Wanna change that annoying splash screen? You can create your own custom splash screen by designing a new BMP image 565x565 and replacing it with the one that is currently in your system directory. Check out ours! Sturmgrenadier Splash

 AA Official Update - 10 July 02

We've been working feverishly since 4 July, adding sixty more servers (now totaling 110 coast-to-coast), completing the tools to provide for community servers, and putting the final touches on more tours of duty, maps, and training missions! What does the immediate future hold? Let's cut to the chase:

- Community Servers: By next Monday, we will release tools to stand-up official community servers. We're grateful to those of you answered the community's demand for more servers. But one of the side effects was that some users who completed missions on these servers found that they were not 'credited' on our Authentication system. This new community game server kit will provide the means by which registered users can stand up their own credited game servers, which will register your completed missions on our Authentication system.

- Sniper School: You asked for it, you got it! On 25 July, we will release the first (of what will be many) updates: U.S. Army Sniper School. This single player update includes two training missions, where you can qualify on both the M24 and M82A1 Barrett sniper rifles. Successful completion of these training missions will enable your character to select these sniper rifles on HomeLAN (and registered public) servers! But be warned - only those who earned an Expert qualification in Basic Training will qualify for Sniper School training!

- Wanna be an Airborne Ranger? On 22 August, we'll release our next batch of updates: Airborne School and Ranger School! Airborne school includes two single player maps: the 250-foot tower and your first C-130 jump! Once you put your knees in the breeze, its time to test your mettle in Ranger School: two multiplayer maps consisting of MILES team missions at mountain phase and swamp phase.

That's not all. We're also working on an in-game browser, linux server port, and host of other features. Yes, we've been busy the past week! More servers, providing for the addition of community servers, more missions, and more Army training! But that's just the tip of the iceberg, troops! Stay tuned for more!

 Operations Underway - 6 July 02

It is finally upon us and all the speculation about the game being absolutely awesome is 100% true. SG has officially passed basic training and is currently operating amidst the HomeLan servers fine tuning our operations. It was a rocky start trying to get passed MOUT McKenna because of the overwhelming popularity. What did they expect? A free game that uses latest technology in an immersive battlefield environment where you can run around and shoot each other with current US Army weapons...who would want that game? Evidently, EVERYONE! Because of this fact the HomeLan servers that authenticate your soldiers achievements are overloaded to say the least. It is merely luck of the draw if you pass or fail. Not passing tends to start the rumors about what is wrong and what you have to actually do to pass. Since we have had a few pass (after almost 2 days of trying I might add) there is nothing special to it. Your team must win 5 out of 7 maps to win the match and your character must have a 0 ROE (meaning you didn't accidentally shoot anyone on your own team). If you are one of the lucky ones, you can check your training and see if it finally registers "Completed". Good luck!

As stated above we are in "training mode" as we come together as a team. A new RW switcher has been added to the downloads page that fixes the error trying to join the America's Army channel. Also considering that GameSpy completely sucks major ass (always got to be at least 1 thing about every game that the developers really screw the pooch on and this was it...so far) there is another way to join the servers manually.

BYPASSING GAMESPY
Load the game and hit your tilda key ~ and it will pull down your console. Type open IP_Address:Port (example open 66.220.20.205:7777) and then hit enter. If the server is full just do it again and type in a different address until you finally find one that will let you in.

VIEWING FPS
To view your Frames Per Second, bring up the console (tilda key ~) and type stat fps.

ADJUSTING GAMMA AND BRIGHTNESS
Use the F10 and F11 keys to adjust your gamma and brightness so you do not have to use night vision goggles. Personally I think this takes away from the realism of the game but if others can see you in the dark without night vision, then you should be able to do the same.

F12
If you have friends that need to get into the same server the easiest way is to get people to leave the server. How you ask? Knowing that hitting the F12 key will dump your game to desktop just type out to all players "If you hit F12 you can select the sniper rifle!" and watch the players drop off the server. Its cruel but it gets the job done.

Clearing Game Cache
Open console (tilda key ~) and type flush. This will clear your video card cache and help speed your game up.
